Rating 2023 met gala looks

Introduction

Hi hello it’s Jo welcome to my video so today I am going to rate the 2023 met gala looks and I know I’m a bit late to this but I just wanted to get my thoughts in on the matter before it all becomes obsolete by the time met gala 2024. So the theme of last year was karl Lagerfeld which was a… controversial theme to say the least. So lets look into that!

Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Otto Lagerfeld (pronounced lagafelt) Is a german fashion designer, If you want to know more about his designer life and all that fun stuff I’ll link his wikipedia in the description below, but here we go onto of why it was such a controversial theme to pick for a met gala lets start with the fact that he used a verse from the Quran in his 1994 Couture collection for Chanel, but being the fact that he is **not** muslim this became controversial to the public eye. He did apologize for this occurrence claiming he thought the verse was from a love poem he red.

The next scandal he was found in was using fur and leather in his lines of fashion which was seen as cruel from the organization such as PETA (an organization that “fights” for ethical animal treatment but thats subjective) it was an ongoing fight with Karl and PETA from 2009 - 2010. Karl never apologized for this and still uses real fur in his fashion manufacturing. How I feel personally, yeah he could very much use Faux fur instead of real animal fur but it doesn’t mean his fashion taste is bad, doesn’t mean he’s out of style just out of touch honestly, at this point and time he would be 76 years old, so yes it seems at a certain point he just stoped trying to understand where people were coming from, but I can also see his view being shrouded with confusion and hate by something like an extremist group such as PETA going after him

In the next controversy, he was found in 2009 critiquing and all in all insulting most women in the modeling and music industry, Commenting on their size. He has never apologized for this.

In 2019, Karl dismissed the #me too movement stating very cruely that if you were a model you should expect to be SA’d and if you don’t want that you should be a nun, quite the terrible take, anyways as said before he died that year but being that he also said in 2017 all of his controversies he had gotten himself into was a “persona” and “an act” was all the things he did after 2017 also an act? Whos to say, all I have to say is I think he is personally way over hyped to be the theme of a met gala.

also it is to be said he did have a beloved pet cat named Choupette which will be referenced many a time in the looks we’ll be seeing today

Alex Newell

Alex Eugene Newell, an American actor and singer. Acting in Glee as Wade “Unique” Adams as a transgender teenage girl. Alex Newell themself I believe identifies as nonbinary using he/she/they pronouns. I had no idea who Alex was before this video but after seeing that not only do they play as transgender characters (being trans themselves) but also plays in multiple broadway productions. I will definitely be checking those films out.

Aside from that let’s look at their met gala look, it’s a pretty on brand thing at this gala to be wearing either black or white and or having cat motifs. And so it’s not shocking they are wearing all black but lets take a deeper look at this outfit, first of all their dress has a great interpretable heart motif, the hair combines well with the head piece, and the lace mesh gloves (although cannot be seen in this photo) just go great with the mesh that is on the under bust part of the dress, it’s all brought together very cohesively and she pulls it off well. I will say my only gripe is I would’ve loved to get a better look at the head piece. 5/5 stars

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Kristen Jenner an American Socialite, media personality and Businesswoman. She starred in the television series Keeping up with the Kardashians and is the founder of Kylie cosmetics. She’s found herself in multiple controversies but we already know that the makeup community is pretty toxic so instead today we are going to be talking about her outfit.

Let’s be honest the red color is iconic, and the robe is so sleek. and the cut out on the chest leading to a connection to the neck it all looks great, her hair and and makeup look so professionally done yet still combining with a natural look and the shoes look so good, I personally love the dress the most and have no gripes with this outfit 5/5 stars

Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci (Ree chee) an American actress, she’s been in a multitude of films but probably one of her most relevant roles was as Wednesday Adams in The Adams Family and in the Sequel. She also played as Marylin Thornhill also known as one of the teacher characters in the new Wednesday show. She is also known as the national spokesperson for Rape Abuse and Incest National Network and has been since 2007. She’s been in many films and television and today I’ll be looking at her outfit she wore to the met gala

I’m gonna be honest, she looks gorgeous but the pose she chose was not flattering at all. That aside I’m not crazy about the dress but the accessories gah the accessories, Ima need my hands on that clutch thank you very much. I don’t really like the hairstyle either, her hair is so far pulled back it looks like all of her hair is shaved except the bangs. It’s far from my favorite outfit. 3/5 stars

Alexander Skarsgard

Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård. A swedish Actor played in many films. The one I somewhat know him from is from The Legend Of Tarzan. I heard it was not a spectacular movie and neither is this outfit. He looks confused. like… who let this guy in, sorry if it feels like I’m dissing any die hard Skarsgard fans, but like he is just wearing a suit. When people show up to the function and go so hard they wear a fursuit maybe just get good. anyways 1/5 stars, I’ll give this guy some pity

Manu Rios

Manuel Rios Fernandez a Spanish actor and singer, playing in television show Elite as Patrick Blanco. Don’t know much about the films he was in but gods can he pull off leather gloves. I love the big outwardly vampire esc collar and the silver brooch look great with black. And he looks adorable, and for that and that alone I give him a 5/5 stars

Joan Smalls

Joan Smalls Rodriguez, a Puerto Rican model and television personality and the first Latina model to represent Estee Lauder cosmetics. She pulls off stunning looks daily and today I’ll be seeing her met gala look

She looks stone cold and sophisticated, her outfits amazing! I love the dripping effect and silhouette that is given by the mesh lace. The see through is a nice touch, As well as the hair goes nicely with the whole ensemble. 5/5 stars

Idris Elba

Idrissa Akuna Elba and English actor, rapper, Singer and DJ. Playing as bloodsport in suicide squad and many other films. Today he serves cunt with this tuxedo. Showing that even though he’s wearing something simple such as a suit he can still look good, The white coat with the black slacks makes such a statement and the sun glasses I assume are to Karls look. 5/5 stars

Stephanie Hsu

Stephanie Ann Hsu an American actress. Playing Jobu Tupaki in Everything Everywhere All At Once. A Phenomenal movie. She plays in many other films as well that I will be checking out

She looks Gorg in this outfit the tie merging into the dress was a great touch especially when you don’t see it at first glance. Although I dislike the visual of sequence Stephanie pulls off just about anything she could wear a fresh pig and I’d think she’d look stunning. Anyways 5/5 stars

Jeremy scott & Devon Aoki

Jeremy Scott an American fashion designer owner of his namesake label and has recently stepped down from creative director of the fashion house Moschino.

Today Jeremy is pulling off a couples look with Devon Edwenna Aoki An American Model and retired actress. during the met gala They both wore white tops with black bottom attire with the accruing feather motifs through out their outits, I’d say it’s pretty creative and I like their outfits a lot. 5/5 stars
